I was Managing Editor of EuroElectronicsWeb and GlobalCommsWeb until April 2 2001. Both sites are owned and operated by VerticalNet Europe, a subsidiary of VerticalNet Inc (
www.verticalnet.com ). The European operation was established in June 2000 with investment from the US parent, Internet Capital Group and BT. I joined in August and to prepare for the launch of EEW in September. At the same time we launched BioPharmaWeb and EuroChemWeb, each of which has a dedicated editor. I also did the research and preparatory work for GlobalCommsWeb which went live in February 2001.I wrote news, product reviews and features for both EEW and GCW. These were then checked and placed on the site by three in-house editors who worked on all four web sites. An important aspect of the sites is the Buyers Guide and the editors were also responsible for supplying and updating accurate information for these.
Both of these web sites have now been incorporated in to the US company's sites which now only provide a selection of press releases with no original content.
